I study English in the ACE School in Phnom Penh.
This week’s topic is “Hypothesizing;Second Conditional”(仮定法過去)
I came to mind this phrase. “If I wasn’t tough, I wouldn’t be alive. If I couldn’t ever be gentle, I wouldn’t deserve to be alive.”(男はタフでなければ生きていけない。優しくないと生きていく資格はない。)
This is a famous line from Philip Marlowe, a fictional character created by Raymond Chandler. With what words would you replace Philip Marlowe’s “tough” and “gentle”?
